Heat recovery ventilation systems operate with 95% efficiency in spaces equivalent to multi-story residential buildings. Heat recovery ventilation systems operate with 30% efficiency for volumes as the size of a single living room. The cost of ventilation equipment per cubic meter of ventilated area increases in smaller rooms. The ventilation system may operate at zero efficiency, failing to ventilate the room at all, merely pumping air into it, if the installation work is not carried out according to the design.
